Oct 5, 2018:  Pat Biesiot is in Ohio now and does not have access to her home computer. She will not be able to upload Senior Class photos as the "Then" photo until Oct 12, 2018.
But, please post a Classmate Bio anyway. We'll sorta remember what you looked like then!

Sep 17, 2018: Pat Biesiot edited all posted "Classmate Bios" to NOT permit private email messages to be sent to classmates through the reunion website. And she edited the Classmate Bios Profile settings to NOT permit private email messages for anyone posting a Bio in future.
This was done to prevent "phishing" email messages that could be sent by outside persons through our reunion website.

If you want to contact a classmate via email, please reach out to Pat (pbiesiot@gmail.com) or Ron June (RLJune@comcast.net) for help.

Sep 16, 2018Several classmates added information to "Classmate Bios" page this month. Scroll through to find them!

UPDATES to this page are in red font.
(Revised 3-13-2018; 5-15-2018)

Let us know what you've been up to for the past 50 years! Well, not every single thing...in detail...in order. But some highlights would be nice.

An online form will appear after you click the gray Add Your Profile button below (so you can submit your bio).  Only the boxes with * are required. All others are optional.

But, it might be nice if you mentioned your maiden name (if appropriate), your spouse/partner/significant other, and your current home town. Whatever. Up to you. We just want to hear something from you.

Your email address will NOT be published online; it's just so you and other registered classmates can send private email messsages to each through the website, but only if you select that option.

You can also Edit Your Profile as needed, if you want to correct or add something.

Click on the Where Are They Now? button to see a cumulative map of the cities where our classmates are living now. (You can opt out of this feature if you like, by not including your town in your profile.)
Then, click on a pin head on the map to see who lives there. You may have to "zoom out" to see entire US map (or world map), by using the - (minus) icon on the lower right of map.
(Disclaimer: the GPS map coordinates are seriously crude--some of the pin heads are pointing to cities quite far away from their actual geographic position!)

Click on a photo (below) to enlarge it.

If you don't have access to a scanner, let Pat know and we'll figure out a way for you to mail the photos for her to scan and upload for you.

After graduating from the College of Wooster in 1972, I taught high school and coached debate in the Toledo area for 3 years.  Much to my amazement, I then returned to Bowling Green to go to graduate school in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, marrying a fellow graduate student, Wendy Soubel, in 1978 and receiving my Ph.D. in 1980.  Wendy and I lived in Cincinnati for several years where I taught in the Business College of the University of Cincinnati and then left academia to go into consulting.  We moved to the Detroit area (Grosse Pointe) in 1983 and I joined together with another BGSU grad with the intention of operating the firm out of our houses.  That company got out of hand and we had 6 offices across the US and a couple in the post-communist states at the point where we sold the company. I've had another couple of firms since then, both focused on assessment (developing/validating tests, interviews and other tools).

Wendy and I raised our family here in the Detroit area.  Our daughter, Kaitlin, now lives in Chicago where she is a clinical psychologist.  Our son, Christopher, is in Bozeman, Montana where he skis, snowboards, hikes, camps and spends an occasional hour or two trying to find himself.  Now that we're empty nesters, we thought about moving to another part of the country but found we'd developed roots.  So we're sticking with Detroit and have moved to a house that is just large enough for the two of us and the 3 dogs.  Both Wendy and I still work part-time (she does executive coaching and assessment) but manage to travel a fair amount and spend time at our cottage in Canada (on Lake Huron close to Grand Bend).

Retired (formerly associate dean, College of Science & Technology, The University of Southern Mississippi)
Comment:
I retired in 2015. Had a rewarding career in academia, but there is more to life than work! Happy to have more time to enjoy reading, gardening, traveling. We live 2 blocks from the beach (Mississippi Sound); I walk a lot for exercise and relaxation.

I attended BGSU; received my B.S. (1972) and M.S. (1975) in Biological Sciences. Worked as a technician, later laboratory supervisor at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (GCRL) in Ocean Springs, MS before going back to graduate school. Received my PhD in Biological Oceanagraphy (1986) from the MIT/Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Joint Program in Oceanography. Did postdoctoral research at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, TN. Spent the rest of my career (26 years) on faculty in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. (A USM claim to fame: it's Bret Farve's alma mater; he still lives in Hattiesburg. Not that we hang out with him or anything.) My favorite class was "Caribbean Marine Biology", which I taught 8 times as a 16-day Study Abroad course in Ocho Rios, Jamaica during the break between Spring and Summer or Fall and Spring semesters. Loved introducing students to snorkeling on the reefs and in the mangrove forests and interacting with Jamaican scientists and educators.

I met my husband at GCRL but we went to separate grad schools before doing our post-docs together at Oak Ridge. Married in Oak Ridge after a long duration / long distance courtship. Shiao is a professsor in Biological Sciences and teaches/does research at the Gulf Park campus of USM in Long Beach. I had our son late in life, so Henry actually may be younger (25 in 2017) than some of our classmates' grandchildren! He lives and works in NYC, and we visit him periodically.

I travel back to Ohio several times a year now that I have more time; my parents and 2 sisters still live in the area.  Attended the 10th year BGHS reunion but couldn't (didn't?) go to the 20th. I'm looking forward to the 50th!

Work: Retired in May 2014 after 42 years in the daily newspaper business. Most of the time with the Sentinel-Tribune in Bowling Green. Eight years in the 1970s as sports editor, then city editor, newsroom computer specialist and in the later years added web editor to my duties.

Education: Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Bowling Green State University in 1972. Certified Interpretive Guide through the National Association for Interpretation. Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist through the Ohio State University Extension and Wood County Park District.

Retirement: Summers of 2015 and 2016 as a volunteer program assistant with the Yellowstone Association Institute based at the Lamar Buffalo Ranch in Yellowstone National Park. I recommend their field seminars to anyone interested in getting off the beaten path at Yellowstone. YAI is now known at Yellowstone Forever Institute.

Locally, volunteer for the Wood County Park District and the Wood County Museum and Historical Center (the old Wood County Infirmary-Poor Farm on County Home Road).

Other: With my brother (Larry) in 2009 completed a frame-off stock restoration of a 1942 Chevrolet 1/2-ton pickup truck. This is a "blackout model" manufactured in 1942 after the start of World War II. Looking forward to getting it back on the car show circuit this summer after being away the past two summers. A 1946 Chevrolet Suburban restoration is underway. It may be finished by summer 2018, we hope.

In 1982, my husband and I along with our two daughters, moved to Winston-Salem, NC.  I retired in 2010 after twenty-eight years as a Training Manager for a Fortune 500 company. After my husband retired in 2011, we decided to become full-time RVers.  In 2012, we sold our home and most all our possessions, bought a 37' motorhome and off we went. Unfortunately, after only 6 months on the road, my mom had a stroke.  We spent the next three years taking care of her until her death in January 2016.  We are now back to full-timing and loving it. We've been to 43 of the 50 states and hopefully will eventually get to all the 49 continguous states.  We have 4 grandsons - 3 in PA and 1 in NC.  We generally spend a couple months in PA and NC and spend our winters in Ft. Myers, FL.

Here's an update before we get to see each other in person this weekend. I am really looking forward to catching up  with you at our reunion!

After graduating from BGHS, I attended Winthrop University for one year then transferred to the University of South Carolina. I graduated in December 1971 with a BA in Sociology. Having led a fairly sheltered life, I wanted a challenging experience, so I became a prison guard. While in that position I was inspired to go to law school. I have been practicing law for 41 years. I am a Certified Specialist in Employment & Labor Law, and this year will publish the 5th edition of Labor and Employment Law for South Carolina Lawyers. I also practice civil rights law and am a Certified US District Court Mediator. My most exciting recent case was Condon & Bleckley v. Wilson & Haley, which brought marriage equality to our state in 2014.

In 2017, several of us left a larger law firm to establish the Burnette Shutt & McDaniel Law Firm in Columbia. It's been a great experience, and even more so since my daughter recently joined the firm.

I have been married to Mike LeFever for 29 years and we have one daughter, Grant Burnette LeFever. Mike formerly was Deputy Chief of Staff for Gov. Jim Hodges and most recently CEO of the SC Independent Colleges and Universities. He retired August 2018, and I swear I will "slow down" in my law pratice pretty soon! We need to have time to play!

We enjoy spending time at Edisto Beach, but we tired of repairing our beach house after hurricanes, so we recently sold it and will use the funds to travel. Our daughter, Grant, graduated in 2018 from the University of South Carolina School of Law. She earned her Masters degree in Southern Studies from Ole Miss, which gave her many excellent skills in researching and writing.  We are very excited to be planning her November 10th wedding to Steven, who is from Charleston. And yes, we do like him.

We also have a psycho Goldendoodle named Eddie, but that's another story.
Can't wait to see you!

After graduation I attended BGSU earning a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Geology.  In 1975 I moved to Tulsa, OK to take a job in the oil industry, transferring to Houston in 1976.  I made it through three mergers, one spin-off and countless re-organizations and changes in management to finally retire in late 2016.  Whilst most of my work was in the US, from 1991 to 2003 I was part of the company’s international division which gave me opportunities for travel and visiting a variety of places around the planet.

Rene and I met in 1980 and married in 1983.  We have two sons.  Rene is a native Houstonian and was a high school science teacher.

About once a year I go hiking or backpacking with a small group of friends although those trips have gotten shorter and less ambitious as the years pass.

I have been catching up on my reading and have taken up family genealogy as a hobby.  Our big project right now is building a house on Lake Livingston about 90 miles north of Houston to which we plan to retire when finished next year.

Comment:
Since BGHS graduation, I obtained an undergraduate degree (social studies education) from Ohio State, a Masters degree in Legislative Affairs from George Washington University, and a PhD in political Science from the University of Cincinnati. While pursuing these degrees I worked as House Librarian at the Ohio State House; Legislative Aide to a US Congressman in Washington DC and Legislative Director for the Mayor of Cincinnati. I married my husband Jim in 1975 (we met while both working at the statehouse; to this day we cancel out each other’s vote as politics remains an area of disagreement!); in 1980 we moved to Hong Kong where I obtained my first academic post as lecturer at the University of Hong Kong. During this time we were blessed with the birth of our sons, James and Nicholas. In 1989 we moved to Tokyo where I worked as an associate professor at Temple
University Japan (TUJ) as well as associate director of the Institute iof Pacific Rim Studies. We returned stateside in 1995 to south Florida, where I became a professor at Lynn University for the next eleven years, serving as Vice President of Academics for the last nine years. In 2007 we moved to London where I was a Visiting Professor of Kings College and now engage in volunteer work at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, home to UK army pensioners. Recognizing how little I know about other areas of interest I continue to be a student, currently working on a certificate in art history through the Victoria and Albert Museum. I remain a Senior Fellow at Lynn University and serve on two internationally focused boards: Carnegie Council (CCEIA) and the Council of International Educational Exchange (CIEE).

My greatest joy is my sons: James, who works in finance in London, and Nicholas, who is a Captain in the US Army, currently posted at West Point.

So we have been blessed with the opportunity to reside in many different parts of the world, but in many ways, I think I am just the same as I was while growing up in BG. As the old saying goes, ‘you can take the girl out of Bowling Green, but you can’t take Bowling Green out of the girl!’ I am grateful for the foundation of family and friends I had in BG and very much look forward to seeing all of you in October!

Personal:  In early 2017 I retired from my carrer as a banking and currently live in Perrysburg. I have been married to Susan Haley, a psychiatrist in the Toledo area since 1987.  We both have children from previous marriages, mine having been to Jane Dolby who was a long-time teacher at BGHS.  Collectively Sue and I have four children and nine grandchildren.

Education:  I graduated from BGSU in 1972 with a Bachelors's degree in Business Admin. major.  Mid-career I went back to BGSU and obtained a Masters degree in Organizational Development and have on occasion I have taught classes in that program as an adjunct professor.

Work Experience:  My 47 year career in banking began in 1970 when, as a sophmore at BGSU, began working at First National Bank of Bowling Green as a PT teller.  First National became Mid Am Bank and later Sky Bank and I was fortunate to have exective-level  responsibilities in retail banking, commercial lending and mergers/acquisitions.  The acquisition of Sky by Huntington Bank in 2007 brought the Ohio portion of my banking career to an end.  Subsequently I had the opportunity to work for a large, international bank in San Francisco, retiring in early 2017. Retirement has included a number of varied consulting engagements.

After graduation from Hillsdale College, Hillsdale, MI, with a BA degree, I took a position in the management training program with Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States.  My year of training was in the Cleveland Office followed by a transfer to the Philadelphia Office.  I met my future husband at the train station on the way to work in Center City where his company was across the street from mine.  His job change meant a relocation to central Pennsylvania and the Camp Hill Office of ELAS where I was the administrative office manager.  However, it also meant that we were just in time for the melt down of Three Mile Island.  The insurance office closed in 1982 giving me a chance to return to my first love, teaching.  I was a long-term substitute in the Mechanicsburg School District for a year until I was hired in the Northern York School District where I taught until I retired in 2005.  I taught Western Heritage to 9th. graders and AP European History to Seniors while serving as the Social Studies Department Chair and the coach of the Mock Trial Team.

We have always been active in the community.  I served as the secretary of the Dillsburg Library Board for 10 years and as the Treasurer (with Larry's help) of the Harrisburg Altrusa Chapter.  I enjoy reading, sewing, embroidery, gardening and travel.

After 10 years as "snowbirds", we relocated to Naples, Florida in 2016 selling our home of 37 years in 3 weeks.  We are happy to be in the sunshine state and weathered hurricane Irma with no problems.  Larry is on the condo board and I am chair of social committee.  We are both in the bocce league.  We stay active and involved in life.
